Micro QR Code is a cut-down QR Code for very small items. It has one finder pattern instead of three and a narrower quiet zone, so it fits where a QR Code can’t, at the cost of holding much less.

Decode one

Scan or paste a barcode and see every part of it.

Make one

Generate a valid barcode from fields.

Where you’ll see it

  • Small parts and electronic components.
  • Labels with very little space, such as on cables, vials or jewelry tags.
It’s far less common than QR Code, and not every phone camera app reads it.

Anatomy

There are four sizes: The quiet zone is at least 2 modules, half what a QR Code needs.

Error correction

M1 can only detect errors, not correct them. M2 and M3 offer levels L and M, and M4 offers L, M and Q. There’s no level H. With so little space, there’s little room for error correction. Use Micro QR Code on items that are protected or handled carefully. See How much error correction should I use?
  • QR Code: the full-size form.
  • Data Matrix: also very small, and more widely supported for part marking.

Specification

  • ISO/IEC 18004: the QR Code specification, which also covers Micro QR Code.
