MicroPDF417 is a smaller form of PDF417 for modest amounts of data. It drops PDF417’s start and stop patterns and uses at most four columns of codewords, so it fits in less space.

Where you’ll see it

  • GS1 Composite barcodes, where it’s the 2D part stacked above a linear barcode.
  • Small labels that need more data than a linear barcode but have no room for a full PDF417.

There’s a fixed set of sizes, from 1 column and 11 rows to 4 columns and 44 rows.

Error correction

The amount of error correction is fixed by the size. You choose a size, not a level.
  • PDF417: the full-size form, with selectable error correction.
  • GS1 Composite: uses MicroPDF417 for its 2D component.
