Korea Post’s barcode encodes a postal code for automated mail sorting. Unlike most postal barcodes, its bars are all the same height and width. The digits are encoded by where the bars sit.

Where you’ll see it

  • Mail in South Korea.
The barcode carries a six-digit postal code. South Korea moved to five-digit postal codes in 2015, so you’re most likely to see it on older mail and preprinted stock.

Anatomy

Check digit

The check digit uses a modified mod-10 calculation.
  • POSTNET: another postal barcode that encodes digits with bars of one width, using height instead of position.
